Canada-Quebec investment of $365,500 in Saint-Eustache

Published on 10 mai 2010

Saint-Eustache, Quebec, May 10 , 2010  – The Honourable Senator Claude Carignan, acting on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today joined Vincent Auclair, Deputy Whip for the Government of Quebec and Member of the National Assembly for Vimont, acting on behalf of Laurent Lessard, Minister of Municipal Affairs, Regions and Land Occupancy, in announcing that the City of Saint-Eustache will receive $365,500 in joint government financial assistance under the Communities Component  of the  Building Canada Fund – Quebec  for modifications to the city’s wastewater treatment plant.

The project consists of making technical improvements to the treatment plant in order to reduce the amount of wastewater released into the environment.

“The wastewater treatment project will serve the interests of Saint-Eustache residents and businesses alike. We are proud to be able to offer Canadians the high quality of life for which our country is famous. Indeed, the Government of Canada has made it its goal to ensure that every community is equipped with the infrastructure essential to the health, safety and well-being of its citizens. Public infrastructure renewal is part of a broad action plan that will allow us to prosper in a healthy environment,” explained Senator Carignan.

“By participating in this project, the Government of Quebec is moving forward to ensure the province’s municipalities have infrastructure that meets their unique realities while fostering sustainable development. By injecting new capital into the  Quebec Infrastructure Plan , our government is looking to accelerate the execution of numerous infrastructure projects throughout the province, like this one in Saint-Eustache, in an effort to improve Quebecers’ well-being, create jobs and promote a high-performance economy. In this way, we are leaving the municipality a legacy of quality infrastructure with which to face the challenges of the future,” added  MNA  Auclair.

“The financial assistance awarded to us through this program will allow us to upgrade the wastewater treatment plant. This announcement is greatly appreciated because it was imperative we improve the plant’s efficiency. This project will ensure and even improve the quality of life of Saint-Eustache residents and give them the assurance that their health and physical well-being are priorities for our municipality,” noted the Mayor of Saint-Eustache, Pierre Charron.

Completion of this project will necessitate an overall eligible investment of $430,000. The governments of Quebec and Canada will each contribute $182,750 toward the work, for a total of $365,500 in combined government funding, while the City of Saint-Eustache will assume $64,500 of the project’s costs.

The  Communities Component  of the  Building Canada Fund – Quebec  is a cost-sharing initiative aimed at funding infrastructure projects in communities with fewer than 100,000 inhabitants. These communities are thus able to use this assistance to improve infrastructure that is in major need of revitalization, including water treatment plants, water supply systems and cultural and sports centres.

Representing an unprecedented funding commitment by the Government of Canada, the Building Canada Fund – Quebec  provides stable and predictable funding to support infrastructure projects. In Quebec, nearly $4 billion will be allocated to that end.

The contribution announced today by the Government of Canada has been awarded through Canada’s  Economic Action Plan . To learn more about this plan, visit www.actionplan.gc.ca .
