Born in Danville in the riding of Richmond, Yvon Vallières is a father of four. From 2003 to 2008, Mr. Vallières has acted as Chief Government Whip, then as Minister of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries and minister responsible for central Quebec. He was a member of the ministerial committee on regions and decentralization, and the ministerial committee on economic prosperity and sustainable development. He was eventually named President of the Government Caucus and, as such, remained a member of cabinet and took part on a number of major cabinet committees on economic issues.
Yvon Vallières was first elected as MNA for Richmond in 1973. Defeated in 1976 but re-elected in 1981, he has never ceased to contribute his many talents on behalf of Richmond citizens since.
He can rely on a vast experience of parliamentary issues. He was the first Whip to serve on cabinet in 1994. He is the author of the Vallières report on tertiary road work, the environment and contracting. On January 13 th 2009, he was elected President of the National Assembly. The lookout for sensationalism from the Official opposition creates a tense climate at the National Assembly. That negative atmosphere gets the better of Yvon Vallières’ patience and he resigns from President of the National Assembly on April 1st, 2011. He also Chaired the Office of the National Assembly, the Committee on the National Assembly, the Subcommittee on Parliamentary Reform as well as many commissions and delegations of the National Assembly.
