Yvon Marcoux holds a Law licence from Université Laval, a Master’s degree in Law from the University of Toronto and a graduate studies diploma in Law from Université Laval. He was Professor in the Law faculty at Laval from 1966 to 1970, then legal counsel to the Minister of Finance, Assistant Secretary and Clerk to the Treasury Board and finally Assistant Deputy Minister of Municipal Affairs from 1974 to 1978. Moving to the private sector thereafter, he was a Vice-President at the National Bank, First Vice-President at the Laurentian Bank, President and CEO of Laurentian Trust and Chairman of the Board and CEO of the Société générale de financement from 1986 to 1988. He was then First and subsequently Executive Vice-President at Provigo for nearly a decade, before becoming Executive Vice-President and General Manager of the Quebec Association of Hospitals in 1997 and 1998, prior to the start of his political career.
His civic engagement spanned his career. He was at times President of the Public Administration Institute of Canada, President of the Montreal Board of Trade, President of the Quebec Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Board of the Université Laval Foundation and the Jean Duceppe Foundation.
Married to Odette Marcoux, father of four children and grandfather to seven, Yvon Marcoux was first elected MNA for Vaudreuil in 1998, and was re-elected four times since. He was Minister of Transportation from April, 2003 to February 2005, before becoming Minister of Justice until April 2007. He was also, from 2003 to 2005, Vice-President of the Conseil du trésor. He now occupies the positions of Vice-chair of the Committee on Public Administration and Member of the Office of the National Assembly.
