Sam Hamad’s experience combines business activities and involvement in many community groups. Sam Hamad’s experience combines business activities and involvement in many community groups. A trained engineer, his master’s degrees in Engineering and Management led to a lectureship in management at Université Laval. Prior to entering politics in 2002, he was senior vice-president of the engineering firm Roche Ltd. Consulting Group.
Involved in local affairs, Sam Hamad contributed to the business community as president of the Greater Quebec City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and vice-president of the Quebec Federation of Chambers of Commerce.
In other community involvement, Sam Hamad was chairman of the Auberivière Foundation from 1990 to 1993, president of the Chaudière-Appalaches Regional Environment Council in 1993-1994, board member (1994-2001) and vice-president (1999-2001) of Centraide-Quebec City, and president of the Capital Energy Forum from 1995 to 1999. He was also a board member of the Laval Hospital Foundation from 1998 to 2000, a member of the Capital-Quebec Committee in (2000-2001), president of the Quebec Public Service Renewal Committee in 2001-2002 and president of the Québec-Chaudière-Appalaches region of the Quebec Order of Engineers.
Sam Hamad was elected MNA for Louis-Hébert in 2003 and was named Minister of Natural Resources, Wildlife and Parks and Minister responsible for the National Capital Region, serving until 2005. He was re-elected in 2007 and 2008, and he served as Minister of Social Solidarity, Minister of Labour, Vice-president of the Conseil du trésor and member of the Priorities Committee. Since August 2010, Sam Hamad is Minister of Transport. He still occupies the position of Minister responsible for the Capitale-Nationale region.
