A lawyer by profession, Pierre Moreau worked in private practice for 22 years as a specialist in municipal law. He also shared his expertise with the future generations, teaching at the École du Barreau du Québec from 1996 to 2002. Father of two daughters, Mr. Moreau made his first leap into the political arena as a candidate for the Québec Liberal Party in October of 2002.

Elected for the first time in the riding of Marguerite-d'Youville on April 14th 2003, he was then successively appointed Parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Justice and Attorney general of Québec, Deputy Government House Leader and Parliamentary assistant to the Chair of the Conseil du Trésor, from March of 2005 to February of 2007.

In 2007 and 2008, Pierre Moreau also occupied the positions of chief of staff for the Government House Leader and the Minister of Justice, Attorney General and Minister of Public security.

Elected member of the National Assembly representing the riding of Châteauguay during the general election held on December 8th, 2008, he was Chief Government Whip from December 2008 to February 2011. From February to September 2011, he occupied the roles of Minister for Canadian Intergovernmental Affairs and the Canadian Francophonie and Minister responsible for the Reform of Democratic Institutions and Access to Information. Since September 2011, he is minister of Transport.
