Pierre Arcand began his career as a journalist in Montreal. In 1978, he was named News Director at CKAC and the Télémédia network. Pierre Arcand began his career as a journalist in Montreal. In 1978, he was named News Director at CKAC and the Télémédia network. From then on, he was put in charge of CKAC in 1984, and became Senior Vice-President of the Télémédia network. He held that position until 1988, when he became the co-owner of CFCF and CFQR. His group then expanded the network by acquiring the CKVL and CKOI radio stations in 1992, and then the CIEL and CIME-FM stations in 1998. In 2002, after 20 years of radio experience, Pierre Arcand was named of the Corus Quebec radio network, owner of 14 stations across the province.
Named recruit of the year by the Montreal Board of Trade in 1987, Mr. Arcand was a member of the Board of Tel-Aide from 1983 to 1986, and of the Foundation for Diabetic Children from 1997 to 2006. Elected as MNA for Mont-Royal in 2007, he served as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Exportation and Minister for Tourism, then as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Finance and President of the Treasury Board. He was also Vice-President of the Education Commission of the National Assembly.
Re-elected in Mont-Royal in December of 2008, he served as Minister of International Relations and Minister responsible for la Francophonie. He also currently sits on the Cabinet Committee for Economic Prosperity and Sustainable Development. Since August 2010, he is Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks.
