Laurent Lessard was born in East Broughton. He was a notary in private practice and mayor of Thetford Mines from 1999 to 2003. Laurent Lessard was born in East Broughton. He was a notary in private practice and mayor of Thetford Mines from 1999 to 2003. He was elected MNA for Frontenac in the general election on April 14, 2003, and on February 18, 2005, was named Minister of Labour and Minister responsible for the Chaudière-Appalaches region. He was re-elected in the general elections on March 26, 2007, and December 8, 2008. He was Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food until June 23, 2009, when he was named Minister of Municipal Affairs, Regions and Land Occupation and Minister responsible for the Chaudière-Appalaches and Centre-du-Québec regions.
Laurent Lessard is very involved in his community. He was an executive member of the Amiante regional municipality (MRC), member of the Amiante local development centre (CLD), and member of the Chaudière-Appalaches Regional Council for Co-operation and Development (CRCD). He has been honorary chair of the Opération Enfant Soleil children’s health foundation, Le Noël du partage, and the Canadian Cancer Society financial campaign He also sponsors the Laurent Lessard Benefit Golf Tournament.
