Jean d’Amour has always been active and involved in his region. He was a journalist and anchor at CJFP radio and CKRT and CIMT television from 1984 to 1988, when he entered provincial politics, becoming political aide to the MNA for Rivière-du-Loup from 1988 to 1994.

After returning to journalism as news director for CJFP and CIBM from 1994 to 1997, he was general manager of the Rivière-du-Loup Chamber of Commerce from 1997 to 1999.

As mayor of Rivière-du-Loup from 1999 to 2007 he literally changed the town with an exceptional wave of development. He was director of the Quebec Union of Municipalities from 2005 to 2007, and director of business development for BRP Infrastructures from 2007 to 2009.

He was also national president of the Quebec Liberal Party for more than a year (2008-2009) and president of the Rivière-du-Loup Rotary Club in 1999-2000. Since February 10th, 2011, he is the parliamentary assistant to the Deputy Premier, Minister of Natural Resources and Wildlife and Minister responsible for the Northern Plan.
