Born in Casablanca, Morocco, Georges Mamelonet studied steam and diesel mechanics at the École de la Marine nationale Française in Marseille, France. He immigrated to Quebec in 1977 and has lived in the Gaspé since 1978.
A businessman and restaurant owner, Georges Mamelonet is involved in his community. He was elected mayor of Percé in 2003.
Over the years he has been involved in many organizations promoting the region’s riches and diversity. With a keen desire to contribute to the development of the Gaspé region, he has been president of the Percé Nautical Club, the Coopérative d’alimentation de Percé, the Le Chafaud museum, and the ACCORD program’s regional recreation and tourism committee for Gaspé and the Magdalen Islands. He is also a member of the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Since his election in 2008, Mr. Mamelonet is Parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. He is Member of the Committee on Planning and the Public Domain, Deputy Chair of the Québec Section, New Brunswick-Québec Parliamentary Association (NBQPA) as well as Member of the Committee on Labour and the Economy.
