Geoffrey Kelley held several positions in politics, in particular Chief of Staff to the Deputy Premier and Chair of the Conseil du trésor, Political Aide to the Minister of Education, Higher Education and Science (also the Minister responsible for the application of the Charter of the French Language), as well as Political Aide to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Public Security. He holds a Master’s degree in Modern Canadian History from McGill University.
Elected as MNA for Jacques-Cartier in the 1994 general election, and re-elected in 1998, 2003, 2007 and 2008, Geoffrey Kelley served, at various times from 1994 until 2003, as the Official Opposition critic for the following portfolios: Native Affairs and the North, family policy and international adoption. He also served as Chair of the Public Administration Committee (1999-2003) and Chair of the Education Committee (2003-2005). From 2005 to 2007, Mr. Kelley was Minister for Native Affairs. Since February 3rd, he is Minister responsible for Native Affairs.
Native of Montreal and resident of the City of Beaconsfield (located in the riding of Jacques-Cartier), Geoffrey Kelley is married to Judith Harper and the father of five children. He is involved with several community organizations, notably the West Island Palliative Care Residence, the West Island Association for the Intellectually Handicapped and West Island Community Shares.
