“With over 97% of its electricity produced from renewable energy sources, Québec is a frontrunner. We want to support the development of green energy technologies and enable Québec companies to position themselves in this promising field,” explained Nathalie Normandeau, Deputy Premier, Minister of Natural Resources and Wildlife and Minister responsible for the Northern Plan.

The green energy technology development assistance program is aimed at sectors such as wind and marine turbines, solar and geothermal energy, hydrogen, bioenergies and electric vehicle technologies.

“Our government’s energy strategy has already sent a clear message that energy innovation is crucial. Our goal is to make Québec a leader in this area through the development of new forms of green energy,” said Minister Normandeau.

The Deputy Premier and Minister also announced that a special team would be advising her on new and renewable green energy sources that should be explored in Québec and measures to take to ensure their development. The team will be composed of twelve members from various sectors linked to green and renewable energies development. Steven Guilbeault, Deputy Executive Coordinator and Spokesperson for Climate and Energy at Équiterre, will chair the team. A report is expected some time this winter.
